In the very beginning Eli Lilly Co. provided us with (Elanco) gelatin capsules. Dr. Timothy J. Smith, Indiana University School of Medicine, Terre Haute, IN, performs the first encapsulated annelid viability tests for us in late 1991 and early 1992. This particular method of encapsulation turned out not to be economical feasible.
Dr. Smith is now at Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at University of Pacific, Davis, CA.
An Executive from Eli Lilly, Bill Smith said, “Once in a great while can you bring a new product to market, with no competition”.
We have come a long way since using Lilly's gel caps. How ironic it is that we would eventually manufacture VermiPods like pills.
